Description:
Are your Connexion search strategies limited to ISBN and 3,2,2,1? OCLC now offers many more ways to retrieve records in WorldCat, including an array of keyword searches, searching by phrase, retrieving by material type and browsing by more than just title.
This two-day class covers basic and advanced searching, navigating search results and customizing the search experience. We will also review authorities searching and discuss search strategies for specific purposes, including selection/collection development, copy cataloging and finding non-book resources. The session will be offered online in two-hour increments for two successive days. Hands-on exercises are included.
Objectives: By the end of class, students will be able to:
•Understand Connexion search interface and navigation among screen displays
•Search Connexion with a variety of methods and strategies
•Use special search features in Connexion
•Find authority records in Connexion
•Learn how to tailor search strategy to specific purposes
Intended Audience:
OCLC users unfamiliar with the new OCLC Connexion interface, those inexperienced in searching and those needing a refresher.
